Weather Whore Strikes Again

They are predicting a wintry mix for Thursday where I live. For some reason, this makes me very happy!

A Random Monday

I can't get my thoughts together for a nice long post, so instead I will direct you to what is floating around inside my head today:
  • Melissa had an interview on the Today Show that she was totally set up for. I completely agree with her entry on the topic 100% and do also have drinks when I am with friends and their children. I think nothing of it, unless I have to drive.
  • Ree had a wonderful time with her husband Marlboro Man, her sister Wetsy and her husband over the weekend at a gala. Can you believe that? She got to go to a Gala! I am so jealous! Ree is also nominated for a Bloggie in the category of best-kept secret weblog. Do her well by checking out her site and voting for her, if you are so inclined.
  • I had my eyebrows done today. I have them do the threading method instead of waxing, as I am very sensitive for some reason and waxing tends to leave me pink for hours on end. It hurt like hell though and at one point I felt as though I might toss my cookies. That might have had something to do with the fact that I hadn't eaten my lunch yet and was really hungry at the time too. In all, I really wish I could just do waxing, as that is over much quicker. There are just one or two big "ripp" sounds versus tons and tons of little "zipft" sounds where I cringe every time.
  • I love torturing myself so much that instead of bleaching the hair on my upper lip this time, I am contemplating having it waxed. Of course, if I do that, I will definitely have to do it right after work so that I can take my pink mustache self straight home instead of back upstairs to my office.
  • Do women in Europe do their eyebrows or upper lips? I remember something about they don't shave their armpits, or is that the French? Sometimes I wish I was French (if they are the ones that don't shave), but then I think ewww! That would just look so gross when I lifted up my arm! Talk back to me and let me know what you know about this subject. Also, do you wax or thread or anything else with the hair on your upper lip?
Well, that's really all that's floating around in here today.

Only in Charlotte

Yes, you are reading that correctly. This is the intersection of Providence Rd. and Providence Rd. And people wonder why I made sure I got the navigation system for my Sienna... We have several others like this in town too. We have the intersection of Queens and Queens. We also have the intersection of Idlewild and Idlewild. What were the road designers/namers thinking???

Vomit and Kindergarten Appointment

So, after being home sick yesterday because I have a virus in my throat that made one of my tonsils take up my entire throat and cover it with little sores (ulcers), I had PM's five year appointment today. But, before we can even get to that, we have to start my day off right!

BD is out of town. Now, I really don't mind him being gone, in fact it is kind of nice. The only thing I really miss him for (at least at the beginning, I am sure if he was gone longer I would miss him more) is taking care of the dogs. Every morning he feeds them and lets them out and all. Well, this morning, we slept until about 7, of course, DQ came down in my bed at 6AM and started fidgeting at about 6:30, but I digress... So, I get the dogs fed and let them out. I then get the kids to get dressed and get them both poptarts for breakfast (there's my mother of the year award again!). I let the dogs in and our beagle starts to puke on the living room floor. I ran to grab him, after he already threw up on the carpet, to throw him outside. As I do so, he projectile vomits all over the carpet and me.

So, now half of my living room is covered in dog puke! You want a description of it, come on, you know you do... Anyway, it was basically un-chewed and chewed food. All over! I tried to pick it up with paper towels the best I could and had the bright idea to get the steam cleaner out to finish the job. Well, since it was already over half the living room, I figured I might as well just do the whole thing.

So, I did. Only after I was done, I realized that there was no water in the reservoir that is supposed to hold the water is sucks back up. It was clogged. So, I took it to the laundry room, dripping filthy puke water all the way and tried to clean out the hair and puke so that it would work. I got it semi-working and went over the floor again. Yes, that was absolutely disgusting!

After all of this, I had 30 minutes left to take a shower and get the kids out the door so I could drop off DQ at school and get PM to the ped by 9:15.

At PM's appointment, he did great. He weighs only 39.5 lbs. He is 43 inches tall. And, he got four shots. Yes, four. Since they are shooting all the stuff in the kid at the same time anyway, I don't understand why they just can't put it all in one. But, I digress. So, PM figures out that I am serious and he is getting shots about the time I put him on my lap and pull his arms out of his shirt. He starts thrashing around and kicking and all. The nurse is trying to tell him to hold still. The nurse is not the normal one, I so wish Ms. Chris had been there, and doesn't really know what to do. I finally get him calmed down enough to look at me and I am so mean. I told him that if he didn't calm down and hold still that they wouldn't let mommy stay in the room. Instead they would bring in other people to hold him down and give him his shots and I wouldn't be allowed in there. I feel so mean. But, he calmed down and got his shots.

Tonight, when I pick him up at school, I am taking him and DQ to McDonald's. His treat that he picked was to be able to go and play at McDonald's, eat dinner and have a chocolate dipped cone. Phew...

Out of commision

Right now, I feel like I have one of these in my throat:

In reality, it is just a tonsil... So, I'll be at home in bed for a while.

Birthday Party Hell

As most of you know, my kiddos birthdays fall on either side of Christmas. PM's is in December and DQ's is in January. It seems to be a very popular time of the year to have children, as we have at least one birthday party per weekend every weekend from about Halloween through Valentine's day. This past weekend was not different. DQ went to a birthday party for one of her friends from her old school. They had it at La-tea-da's, which is a tea house in Charlotte.

It seems that lately more of the parties seem to be for the parents than the kids. I mean seriously, a real tea party for four year olds? Seems a little much. I could see it when they are more like 7-10, but at four, not good. The girls wanted to play with the balloons and run around, not sit still and drink tea. But, I digress. This all goes along with the goodie bag hell that I have experienced. You spend so much on the party and goodie bags that you might as well just take your kids to the toy store and let them spend a good $500! WTF! I'm just sayin...

And, this article says it too at Charlotte.com.

In any case, she still was very cute at the party, here are a few more pictures:

Random Thoughts Friday

I have a few thoughts floating around in this brain of mine today:
  • I am a weather whore. Whenever there is a possible big weather event, I get all worked up into a tizzy by checking the various weather sites constantly all day long. Take just this week for example. We had the possibility of a "wintry mix" Wednesday night into Thursday and lasting throughout the day. I must have looked at the radar on Intellicast (because they really have the best radar loop, what with the various colors to indicate different types of precipitation and all) about 25 times, including once in the middle of the night on Wednesday night when I got up with one of the kids. Pathetic, I know.
  • Does anyone else feel this way about public restrooms? You go into a stall and sit down. Of course, someone else goes into the stall next to you. First of all, they know you are in there, why can't they go one more down? But, I digress... So, you are sitting there and really have to pass gas. I mean, really bad. Do you try to slowly/quietly do it? I do. Many people in my office flush the toilet when they do to mask the sound. Whatever. Stop wasting water people, you are in a bathroom! Jeesh! Anyway, on the one hand, I feel like I should be quiet and not do it and on the other hand, I feel like I am in a bathroom and should be able to. What do you think?
  • PM decided he was big enough to get his own breakfast this morning. When I reminded him he couldn't even reach the milk, he conceded that I should get his milk and plate and he would get his poptart and cook it. (Yes, I am winning that mother of the year award for his wholesome breakfast.) I was scared to death to let him do it, but I did. And, do you know what, he did it! He put the poptart in the toaster oven. He turned it on and he took the poptart out without burning himself. It is so hard to stand back and let them do things new on their own.
  • DQ has also decided she is big enough to do things on her own since she is four now. She is getting dressed by herself now. She will not let me watch her though. I don't know what is up with that, but oh well. At least she is doing it. We are still working on the buckling our seatbelt by ourself in the car. I have to keep stopping PM from helping her.
  • And the forgetful brain strikes again. I had something really funny that I was saving for last and I completely forgot. I guess it will have to wait for another post, if/when I remember.

Brain Teaser

The above was written on a piece of paper that PM brought home from school yesterday. I asked him what it was and he said...

Ate ham. Get it, there are eight lines and the word "ham". Of course the lines should be in front of the word to really get the true meaning, but for a five year old, I am very impressed!

Birthday Party Success!

DQ's party was great fun. She had it on Saturday at AirPlay Kids. She ended up with about 23 kids total there, which I was very happy about after PM's large birthday party. They ran around, bounced, climbed, slid and balanced for an hour and a half!

After all of that fun, we headed to the party room for cake and ice cream. I made a Strawberry Shortcake this year, per her request. It didn't turn out as good as I had hoped, but it was good enough. I handed off my camera to a neighbor to take pictures for me. I think he did a pretty good job!

Here she is blowing out her candles:

And, last but not least, a smiling four year old!

January 13, 2003 at 3:04 PM

DQ came into the world. Here is her birth story:

I woke up Monday morning at 1 AM and thought I had wet the bed. Of course as soon as I got up and started to walk to the bathroom I realized what it was. Not really gushing at this point, but obviously a big leak. I called and woke up my mom to come down and stay with PM. I called BD to tell him to get on a plane (he was in NC) and called my sister to come down to take me to the hospital. At this point, I wasn't really having contractions. I then sat on the toilet until my sister and mom got there, didn't want to chance leaking fluid all over our new house, plus I think her head was plugging the leak a little bit. My sister and mom got there and my sister drove me to the hospital. We got there around 3AM.

After sitting in triage for a while, they had to verify that it really was my water and I was in labor, they finally moved me to a birthing suite. I was at 4cm and 80% by this point and it was about 4:30 AM or so. The place was packed. All 6 triage rooms were full and all 10 birthing suites were full. I got the last one. By about 6:30, three other babies had been born. I explained the situation that BD had gotten a flight but wouldn't get in until 9:48 AM and then he had to get to the hospital, which would get him there around 10:15 - 10:30 AM. They agreed to wait as long as possible for any interventions and just let me go slow. They advised against the epidural at this point because sometimes in second labors they make the mother relax so much that the contractions can get stronger and things can go faster. So, I just toughed it out. It wasn't really as bad as I thought it would be.

By about 9, when I hadn't really made any progress, they wanted to start pitocin. I told them I would when I knew BD's plane had landed. They agreed to wait. When BD called and said he was here and getting a car I told them we could go ahead, but that I wanted an epidural first. I got the epidural and pitocin around 11:00. They kept upping the pitocin because my contractions kept backing off. At this point BD and my sister were both with me. When they checked me around 1PM, I was only at 5cm. But then things really started happening. I tried to nap, but there was so much pressure from the baby moving down that it was near impossible. I told them this and pretty much it was downhill from here.

They checked me again around 2 I think and I was at 8cm and 100%. I knew things were really cooking because there was so much pressure and it hurt so bad that I was miserable. Since at this point, it still looked like it would be a while to the nurse, my sister decided to leave and go home to shower. Well, around 2:30, she left and right after she left things were so intense that I had to practically beg the nurse to get the doctor in there. I don't think that she believed me that it was time. The doctor and resident came literally running in and they were flying around trying to get everything set up. BD called my sister and told her to turn around and come back, 2:35 PM. She hadn't gotten very far. I remember when PM was born, the doctor leisurely setting up and getting dressed and all. These people were practically sprinting around the room!

I started pushing between 2:40 and 2:45 and little miss DQ was born at 3:04. I tried to do it without an episiotomy, but the doctor finally had to do one. She was a very quiet baby when she was born. She didn't really cry and that worried me. They insisted she was ok. BD went over with her while they checked her out and he was concerned as well. They did make her cry somehow to show us that she was ok. She was very pink in color, except for the bluish feet and hands.

While they stitched me up, BD stood guard over DQ and watched every little move. They then handed her to dad for the first time and then to me. We took some pictures and then I got the chance to nurse for the first time after they cleaned her up a little more. She nursed very well, almost 15 minutes on each side! And that was it.

My sister teased that she got back and heard them telling me to push. So, she thought she would run downstairs and by a magazine because it would be a little bit. When she got back up, she heard DQ crying and was shocked. She was trying to listen to see if she was a boy or girl but everybody kept saying baby or it. Then she finally heard she and knew it was a girl. She was very excited.

So, that's it. Tomorrow as of 3:04PM, my baby will be 4 years old. Happy Birthday sweet girl!

National De-Lurking Week

Apparently, Blogger/Google were having problems today, as I was finally able to get in to create a post. phew. I wanted to tell you that this week is National De-Lurking week. I know I don't have a huge audience, but if you stop by here, say hi!

Things I hate - Part I

Since I am sure I will be adding to this list from time to time, I decided to name it "Part I".

Driving home on Friday afternoon, in the rain, I was in the left lane of a four lane road. The speed limit on this road is 45 mph. I was moving along, at the speed limit, when the car in the right lane put on their turn signal to get in front of me. I let him (in other words, I didn't speed up to prevent him from getting in front of me). He/she then proceeded to leave their left turn signal on, stop and wait to turn left at a side street. Hello! WTF!!! I really hate that...

Then, keep in mind it was raining, I saw these two women running. Seriously, it is raining for heavens sake! Go to the gym or run on your treadmill. I don't know why, but for some reason when I see that I just think to my self that they are trying to "show off" and are saying to everyone who sees them, "look at me, I am soooo dedicated I run in the rain". I really hate that... (oh, if you happen to be one of these people that run in the rain, can you please explain why so that maybe I can get this off my list?)

Lastly, as I mentioned in a previous post, I cannot seem to remember things. So, upon seeing these two things, I immediately called my office and left myself a voicemail about them. I actually spoke out my post (for the most part) in my voicemail. I really hate that as well...

Child Speak

Heard at our kitchen table this afternoon, DQ speaking:

"Mommy has a hairy booty!"

She then proceeded to tell BD, who was trying so hard not to laugh, that he has a hairy booty too. She was hilarious and all full of questions as to why there is hair there on adults. She also stated that she did not like it and was "glad I don't have a hairy booty!"

We did inform her that when she gets older, she will have hair too...

Yawn

I know, I know, I have been very boring lately. My stats have gone way down and I need to talk about something interesting. But, I just don't lead a very interesting life. I don't live on a working ranch and have cows to preg-test to tell stories about. I didn't get any really cute puppy pajamas for Christmas to show you. I haven't accidentally peed on my iPod, so I don't need to now call it an iPeed. And, I didn't have a Honky Christmas to tell y'all about.

So, what have I got? Well, I have a brain that at times thinks this line, "I have to write about this on my blog" and then immediately forgets what that is. It is like the line, "I have to write about this on my blog" opens up the special permanently dispose of information section of my brain and dumps the thoughts in there instead of the temporarily keep section. Or maybe the temporarily keep section is just too full right now.

I know when PM was getting ready to turn five, all I did was whine about it. Well, DQ is getting ready to turn four. I just don't feel as whiny. I wonder why? I guess four isn't as much of a milestone as five is. She is still the same old DQ. She has decided to have her party at one of those indoor play places where the kids get to jump on air inflated things until their eyeballs pop out. I will post a link to it later, after she has had her party. Her party is a week from tomorrow, on her birthday. She has decided that she wants a Strawberry Shortcake cake (yippee! I already have the mold, as she had one for her 1st birthday too!). She has also informed me that she wants the goody bags for the guests to have Nerds and Hershey Kisses in them. She has quite the opinion doesn't she?

It figures

Well, every single day of the children's vacation (from 12/22 until this morning) the kids woke up early. The latest they slept was 6:30, and usually they were up by 6.

This morning, when I had to get them up for school, I woke them both up at 6:45 and they were sound asleep.

It figures...
